LATEST NEWS ON BEAUTY PAGEANT 2008 IN MARCH 2009

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 8 - 23-year old Venetta Zakers was crowned Miss World St. Kitts Nevis at a beautiful event held last saturday at the St. Kitts Marriott resort in Basseterre.

Venetta also won the Talent competition by doing a rendition of the reigning 4-peat Calypso King, Konris Maynard’s ‘One Song’.

Venetta, who stands 1.72 m in height, works as a financial advisor. She is also an experienced model and pageant competitor. She will represent St. Kitts and Nevis at the Miss World 2009 pageant in South Africa next December.

The 1st and 2nd runner-ups were Oneika Jenkins and Tesia Burton.

It's the first time since 1988 that this territory competes in Miss World. Welcome back!

MANILA, Philippines – The Binibining Pilipinas Pageant 2009 crowned its top three beauty queens early Sunday, starting with 23-year-old Melody Gersbach as Bb. Pilipinas-International, followed by 22-year-old Pamela Bianca Manalo as Bb. Pilipinas-Universe and 22-year-old Marie-Ann Umali as Bb. Pilipinas-World.

It was held at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, with the show starting late on Saturday. It was aired live over GMA channels nationwide with Paolo Bediones and Iza Calzado as hosts.

The winners were crowned by their respective predecessors – Patricia Fernandez (Bb. Pilipinas-International), Jennifer Barrientos (Bb. Pilipina- Universe), and Danielle Castaño (Bb. Pilipinas 2008). Castaño replaced Janina San Miguel who resigned late last year after the death of her grandfather.

Winners' backgrounds Gersbach – who did not win any other award – was born in Germany, but her mother hails from the Bicol Region, where Gersbach manages the family restaurant in Albay. She is after all a graduate of the University of Asia and the Pacific with a degree in Management. She will compete at the Miss International 2009 pageant in Macau.

Manalo won several other awards – the Best in Swimsuit award, after which she also got a sponsor's honor, the Manila Bulletin Readers' Choice Award.

Manalo, a 22-year-old native of Manila, is an Advertising graduate of the Assumption College who now works as a flight attendant. She will represent the country at the Miss Universe 2009 pageant in the Bahamas.

Earlier in the night, Umali also won the Best in Long Gown and Miss Photogenic plum. Umali, a native of Batangas City, took up Tourism at the College of Saint Benilde. She plans to be a flight attendant and dreams of putting up her own restaurant. She will attend the 2009 Miss World contest in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Runner-ups were Regina Hahn and Rachelle Angalot.

Candidate No. 4 Gizelle Jasmin Rivamonte was named as Miss Friendship, which carried the distinction of having been voted by the other candidates themselves.

There were 24 semifinalists, but Candidate No. 13, Sandra Inez Seifert, was disqualified a week before for having done a sexy pictorial that was published in a men's magazine. - GMANews.TV

The Bahamas to host Miss Universe 2009
The host country of Miss Universe 2009 will try to have its first ever semifinalist

Nassau, the BAHAMAS - It's now confirmed: Miss Universe 2009 will be held in the paradise islands of the Bahamas. It's been officially announced by the Prime Minister of the Bahamas this Monday at the House of Assembly, said a press release sent by the Miss Bahamas Universe Organization through its public relations officer, Ms. Monalisa Thompson.

Ms. Gaynell Stubbs, National Director for the Miss Bahamas Pageant, says "this is a dream come true for the Bahamas and could not have come in a better time".

The year's highly contested 2009 Miss Bahamas Universe Pageant will be held in May, as many of the small island beauties seek to serve as the official Ambassador for the Bahamas. The winner will try to accomplish at home what not other Bahamian beauty queen has done in the past editions of the pageant: to advance to Miss Universe's semifinals.

The final international event and telecast will take place at the fabulous Atlantis Paradise Resort, supposedly on August 30 (TBC).

Government authorities believe it will be a great opportunity for the Bahamas to expose its natural beauties to several places around the world, mostly the USA, Latin America, the Caribbean and Asia.

Miss Universe is today the second most watched international beauty pageant in the world, reaching a global audience close to 1 billion people.

Eighty plus international delegates are expected to participate in this year's event.

Economics student from Split will compete in Miss Universe 2009

Zagreb, CROATIA - The new Miss Universe Croatia 2009 is 20-year old Sarah Ćosić, an Economics student from the city of Split.

She was crowned tonight in an event held in Croatia's capital city, Zagreb.

The winner stands at 1.78 mt.

She will now get ready to compete in Miss Universe 2009 next August.

Essi Pöysti of Jyväskylä is Miss Suomi (Finland Universe) 2009

Finland crowns its Miss Universe delegate for 2009

Helsinki, FINLAND - The new Miss Suomi (Finland Universe) 2009 is 21-year old Essi Pöysti of Jyväskylä (C). She is 1.74 m-tall and will represent Finland in Miss Universe 2009.

The first runner-up was 19-year old Elsi Suolanen of Helsinki.

The 2nd runner-up was 19-year old Linda Wikstedt of Helsinki, who was crowned Miss Finland World last year and represented her country in Miss World 2008, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

New Uruguayan beauty queen is f from Montevideo

Punta del Este, URUGUAY - Famous for its beautiful beaches, resorts and casinos, the city of Punta del Este hosted the 2009 Miss Universe Uruguay pageant, which was held at the Salón Montecarlo of the traditional Hotel Corad.

The winner was Cintia Dottone, 20, 1.79 m-tall, from Montevideo. She will represent her country in Miss Universe 2009, later this year.

Her court included Karen Gutiérrez (vice-queen and chosen as Miss Internet), Patricia Callero (first princess), Nadia Teoduloz (second princess), and Rocío Torres (third princess).
