Pamela Jelimo of Kenya clinched the gold medal in the Women's 800 meters at the Beijing Olympics here on Monday night, clocking 1 minute and 54.87 seconds, also her personal best. Janeth Jepkosgei Busienei, also of Kenya, took silver and Morocco's Hasna Benhassi, runner-up at the Athens Games, took bronze with a time of 1:56.73.(Thank you and credits to Xinhua Images)


Long jumper wins Panama first Beijing Olympic gold - Irving Saladino became on Monday evening the national hero for Panama by winning the tiny country's first Olympic gold medal in Beijing. Irving Saladino reached 8.34 meters in the Men's Long Jump. Panama had previously earned only two Olympic medals, both bronze, won by Lloyd LaBeach in the Men's 100m and 200m sprints in 1948. Angelo Taylor of US wins Men's 400m Hurdles gold - Angelo Taylor of the United States claimed the Men's 400 meter Hurdles title in 47.25seconds at the Beijing Olympics on Monday. Liu Xiang, China's defending Olympic champion in the men's 110 m hurdles, withdraws from the competition through injury.

Irving Saladino wins Panama's first olympic medal in 40 years, and their first gold medal ever in an Olympic Athletics event.

The United States sweeps the medals in the men's 400 m hurdles, with Angelo Taylor winning gold, Kerron Clement silver and Bershawn Jackson bronze. This is the US team's first clean sweep of the event since the 1960 Rome Olympics.

Weightlifting

Andrei Aramnau of Belarus breaks three world records, for the snatch, clean and jerk, and total, on the way to winning the men's 105 kg event.
