Venezuela wins Reina Hispanoamericana; Ecuador “Virreina”Adriana Vasini Sánchez, a 22-year old currently in her 4th year of Medical school, was crowned Reina Hispanoamericana 2009 during the annual pageant held in Santa Cruz, Bolivia on Thursday night.
The 1.78 m beauty from Maracaibo, Venezuela, was always considered one of the top choices for the crown. She currently holds the title of Miss World Venezuela, expecting to compete at the Miss World 2010 pageant in Vietnam.
The “Virreina” or “vice-miss” is 19-year old Sandra Vinces, Miss Ecuador; the 1st runner-up was Brazil (Livia Nepomuceno), 2nd runner-up was Spain (Melody Mir); 3rd runner-up was Bolivia (Flavia Foianini), 4th runner-up Dominican Republic (Rocio Castellon) and the 5th runner-up was Colombia (Lina Mosquera).
The panel of judges, composed by international celebrities and experts, included Ada Aimee de la Cruz, Miss Dominican Republic and 1st runner-up in the last edition of the Miss Universe pageant.
During the first part of the gala, the Best National Costume Award went to Miss Mexico, Andrea Martinez.
Miss Vasini will spend her year as the official image of the pageant’s sponsors. She was crowned by the outgoing queen, Vivian Noronha Cia of Brazil.
Her triumph marks the fifth Reina Hispanoamericana crown for Venezuela; other winners were Francis Gago (1991), Gabriela Vergara (1996), Patricia Fuenmayor (1997) and Ligia Petit (2000), when the contest was known as “Reina Sudamericana”.
