SYDNEY, July 22, 2009 – An aspiring performer from Canberra has been crowned Miss World Australia. Sophie Lavers, 24, was crowned at a ceremony in Sydney tonight, beating 19 other hopefuls.
Wearing a cream dress adorned with silky flowers, Ms Lavers grinned and accepted a bouquet of red roses. The sparkly tiara was a little too big for her head and she mouthed to the crowd: "My crown doesn't fit''.
Ms Lavers is completing an acting course and hopes to work in the television or film industry.
She will represent Australia at the Miss World competition in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 12.
