Miss Iceland 2009Winner will compete in Miss World, in South Africa
Reykjavik, ICELAND, May 23, 2009 – Last night, the Ungfrú Ísland (Miss Iceland) 2009 finals took place at Broadway, in Reykjavík. Winner was 18-year-old Guðrún Dögg Rúnarsdóttir (C), representing Vesturland. The most beautiful woman in Iceland will represent her country in Miss World 2009, in South Africa.
The 1st runner-up was Magdalena Dubik, and the 2nd runner-up was Sylvía Dagmar Friðjónsdóttir.
There are unconfirmed rumors that Ingibjorg Ragnheidur Egilsdottir, last year's 1st runner-up, will compete in Miss Universe 2009, in the Bahamas. It is yet to be confirmed.
As for the new Miss Iceland, if she is crowned Miss World in Africa, she will become her country's 4th Miss World. Iceland won the most prestigious beauty title on the planet in 1985, 1988 and 2005, an amazing record for a country with a population of less than half million people.
