OH NO!! BIRD FLU IS BACK - LATEST NEWS ABOUT BIRD FLU ON 13TH MARCH 2008 - 23 SCHOOLS IN HONG KONG ARE CLOSED

The last time I heard about bird flu which actually began infected in humans was in 1979, about nine years ago. It was the first time the H5N1 strain had crossed the species barrier from all sorts of poultry to humans. Millions of birds had been slaughtered in Hong Kong and in places that was infected.

Most of the infected people were believed to have contracted the virus directly from the birds concerned. Infection causes a wide spectrum of symtoms that are in the birds, ranging from mild to a highly sickness and it attacks the human rapidly and this are known "highly pathogenic avian influenza" and may followed by death.

All birds are said to be in risk infected by avian influenza (Bird Flu), though some species are more resistant than others. All together there are about fifteen sub-types of influenza virus that are known to infect birds.

Although avian flu is very infectious in birds, it does not spread easily among humans but the avian virus when it mixes with a human one it may form a new disease. The new virus of the new desease could share genetic material from both viruses, being highly infectious like human flu and dangerously fatal like the avian variety.

How scary it is when I thought and read about bird flu. It was also mentioned in the news that in 1997 six people in Hong Kong died after being infected with this dangerous H5N1 strain of bird flu. Many people were killed since bird flu attacked the humans.

The latest news that I read from the news are 23 schools in Hong Kong have been reported of an increase in infections of bird flu and recently a seven year old boy died after being admitted to the hospital with fly-like symptoms. Investigation about the outbreak of bird flu is still going on.
